The hummingbird on the flower

Monday 3 February

This afternoon I arrived in Castries on St Lucia. A small harbour town where there is not much to see. The local market is large and, apart from vegetables and fruit, is mainly set up for cruise ship visitors. A few French colonial buildings and the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. A beautiful building, with a special wooden roof, the ceiling of which is painted. It is also striking that the beach of the town is right next to the airport. The other day I take the local minibus, a kind of public transport, through the wooded mountains on winding roads to Soufriere. Beautiful ride. Here I walk to the famous Toraille Falls and see how a hundred people (from a cruise ship) are queuing to have their picture taken under the waterfall. Too bad. Back through the botanical garden and past the Diamond. Special is the hummingbird posing on a flower.
