Island hopping from St Maarten

Friday 14 March

Yesterday I arrived on St Martin. I quickly get tired of Marigot. From here I can easily take a boat to Anguilla. After the usual customs work I rent a scooter to explore the island. Anguilla is, in contrast to most Caribbean islands, quite flat. The coast has beautiful beaches that alternate with rugged, rocky coast. Recommended.

By bus to the Dutch part of the island. From Philipsburg there are many more possibilities to explore other islands. The ferry to St Kitts and Nevis takes 4 hours and makes stops on Saba and St Eustatius. Saba is a striking appearance as a volcano in the ocean with a rugged coast. At St Eustatius the old fort high above the harbour stands out. On St Kitts the hotel is a stone’s throw from the terminal. A tour of the island in the open tourist bus gives a beautiful view of the history of the island. Here too it was about sugar cane and a visit to the old Wingfield Estate Rum Distillery in the rainforest is a must. The coastline on the east coast is rugged and beautiful and also offers views of Nevis.

Philipsburg has the beach right on the boulevard with a view of the harbour, special. From that harbour I also make a trip to St Barth. Upon entering the harbour it is immediately noticeable that this island is for the well-to-do citizen. Capital (sailing) yachts are moored in the bay and the harbour. The shopping street consists mainly of clothing boutiques, where no price tag can be found. The supermarket is a delicatessen store, where not even a bottle of water is for sale. Beautiful island and Shell Beach is fantastic. On the way back to the boat I get something from the Chinese takeaway. Half portion, cold, and for the price of a star restaurant. This island focuses on a specific target group.

On St Maarten I visit some beaches such as Mullet Bay and Maho Beach and then the trip is over.
